A workshop entitled “Combating Domestic Violence”

The Arab World Center for Democratic Development held, in cooperation with the German Hans Seidel Foundation, a workshop in the city of Irbid entitled “Combating Domestic Violence”, and the researcher and counselor on women’s issues spoke to the workshop, Attorney Dr. Akef Al-Maaita

Dr. Al-Ma’aytah said that the Law on Protection from Family Violence is a modern and civil law that focused on the therapeutic and preventive, and not punitive, aspects, and contrary to what is stated in the penal law that is implemented in accordance with the provisions of the law, penalties for imposing freedom and imprisonment in the event of committing a crime against a family member Al-Maaytah added that the new law introduced so-called societal punishments, which is a service that the abused community provides without pay, and to provide a service to society and municipalities, and sometimes sessions for some abused are held by the Ministry of Social Development to change the pattern of aggressive behavior among some individuals within the family and self-control

He also talked about the forms and types of domestic violence in general, and he pointed out that many of the violent practices have gender causes “based on societal gender”
Participants in the workshop stressed the importance of holding more of these workshops due to their importance and the importance of the topics presented, and we thank the Center for the Arab World and the Hans Zayed Foundation for holding this workshop and also offer thanks to Dr. Al-Maaytah for the unique presentation of the workshop and dialogue with them
